Parenting an Outspoken ChildEver been with friends when one of your kids blurts out,
“We can’t spend any money until payday!” or told your friend, “Your son is the bossiest kid I’ve ever known!” We all have been embarrassed by our kids from time to time. Some kids seem to make comments like this all the time. How are we to deal with this without breaking their spirit? An outspoken child is one that is bossy, blurts out her thoughts without regard of how they will be received, and no concern of the consequences. They are usually viewed as rude. Outspoken kids tend to be this way from the time they begin to talk. There just seem to be no boundaries. 1. Start now. 2. Set Clear Boundaries. 3. Be consistent. 4. Stay calm. The main thing here is to remain consistent no matter how hard this may be. There are good things that come from outspoken kids. They usually will stand up for what they believe without regard for peer pressure. They will speak up for themselves and others they view as being mistreated. That’s a big deal in today’s world. If you have an outspoken child, patience, consistency and boundaries are the keys...and develop a thick skin! |
