do you feel like you are on a parenting roller coaster?Have you ever ridden a really big roller coaster? One that you are excited to ride, yet inside very nervous.
I remember riding one of those roller coasters where the track was on top and your feet hang in the air. I was encouraged to ride on the very front row because it was so much better. I was excited, nervous, scared, anxious, and couldn’t wait to for my turn all at the same time. All of those emotions at the same time yet on the outside I was trying to look as cool as a cucumber. That sounds kind of like parenting doesn’t it? We race from emotion to emotion trying to influence our kids to make good choices and be responsible. It is important for parents to continue to step into their kids lives no matter what part of the track you may be on. Remember a roller coaster ride doesn’t last forever and neither does the time our kids are in our homes. Parents should take an intentional step into their kids world every week. Make a list of 5 things that each your children loves to do (they don’t even have to cost money!!!!). Then take time to do one a week. Find a friend and tell them what you are doing so they can ask you if you have done that each week. Our kids need our focus and time. Raise your hands as your car crests the hill, cause the fun is just about to begin! Read More... |
