How can you motivate your child to read more? Think series. Choose books that are connected by character, theme or type of literature. This will help your child anticipate what is coming up next and provide motivation to make progress. Model reading. Parents need to model reading consistently for their kids. Sitting down with a magazine, book, or e-reader regularly will help your child understand that reading is apart of your life. Encourage your kids to read signs, menus and other things with words on them. They are taking in reading material and do not even realize it. Have fun. Take a reading trip. Make a map of some place your child would like to travel and place it somewhere visible in your home. Calculate the mileage and set a mile to minute ratio.
